Graffiti portrait shoot

Graffiti is very colourful and, often, very artistic. I have been keen to incorporate it in a photo shoot for some time. I feel this would be a great backdrop for teenage or, even, children photo shoots… something a bit different from the usual background and possibly more appealing to unwilling models. Jenny kindly modelled for me and looks terrific against the colourful backdrop. I think the background demands a degree of attitude – whether edgy or just monkeying around. It’s not a background for looking wistful and innocent.

In addition, I’ve wanted to try out photo collages. The graffiti background seemed the perfect opportunity as there is so much detail. I take dozens of similar shots and overlay them to create the complete picture. I plan to do a lot of these in the future and hopefully improve the way I produce the finished image. Hope you all enjoy them.

Flower bridal accessories

I rarely do product shoots but, when I was approached by Jenny to photograph her amazing bridal accessories, I couldn’t resist. The accessories tie in nicely with both my usual portrait and wedding work, so it was a natural choice to accept this commission.

Jenny creates beautiful hair accessories and adornments, for brides and her entourage, using a combination of lace, ribbons, pearls and jewels. Her items all have a beautiful vintage feel, with something to suit any bride. All the accessories are handmade by Jenny, and are so delicate and intricate it would be hard to know which to choose.

Boudoir-lounging-red-satin

Boudoir photography is always a real pleasure. I get to spend a lot more time with the client, opening a bottle of bubbly, playing some great tunes, and having some real fun. It’s a very creative process for me. I don’t make any firm plans on backgrounds or lighting until I meet the client. I [...]

Photographing children

April 3, 2011

Sometimes portrait photography has its difficult moments. Not everyone wants to be photographed and, at times like these, I have to dig deep in to my resources to get those terrific shots. Whaleshark swimming in the blue.

One of my big passions for many years has been scuba diving and for over 15 years I have also focused my interest in underwater photography. I started diving 20 years ago and have subsequently become an advanced diver and diving instructor for BSAC (British Sub-Aqua Club). Many years ago I realised I wanted to [...]
